mbo & Social Commitment
Mbo Architects approach to Sustainability is to minimise the use of energy within a project. By designing for orientation, solar control, utilising natural light and ventilation. Maximising insulation and minimising heat loss. Rather than simply providing bolt methods of energy conservation, we are concerned with the present for a sustainable future tomorrow
We also promote sustainable behaviour in-house. With 50% of our staff using bicycles to travel to and from their place of work. A large bicycle storage area for staff-use. Office-wide recycling is in place, including paper, batteries, metals, plastics and ink cartridges.
At mbo architects we are committed to helping foster the next generation of architects, master planners and interior designers by improving the accessibility of architecture as a profession. We engage with local schools, running workshops and provide internships to secondary school and year-out architecture students.
We are committed to supporting junior staff in their quest to attain professional certification and provide ongoing learning and career development options for all our staff. These standards are promoted at home and abroad. Continued professional development and educating for tomorrow are high on our agenda.
We are in the business of designing and providing community facilities. Indeed McNeil Beechey O'Neill Architects worked closely with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation in the building of the UK's first Continuing Care Community at Hartrigg Oaks, New Earswick, York. This not only involved the design but the continued community consultations which were carried out both before and after completion.
We are committed to engaging with the community on projects at various stages. Adding value to communities is an important process in the design and planning of development no matter what their scale.
McNeil Beechey O'Neill Architects are traditional architects with a surprisingly modern outlook.
mbo design buildings to meet required needs, create enjoyment, pleasure and pride. Developments that are environmentally responsible. We take a holistic approach, considering impacts from the use of land and the construction materials, through the energy requirements in use, flexibility and adaptability to change, to the impacts of demolition. We strive to ensure that everything we do is not only sustainable, but as architects we are also concerned with style, aesthetics and the sense of place.
Building upon the mbo team’s expertise, mbo architects and its partners continually invest in research and development into good practice and implementation of a better quality of life in the communities within which we work and to promote better understanding to the wider built environment and community.
This was so during and after completion of the Hartrigg Oaks development and as far back as 1985 with the early adoption of community lead participation and understanding of our Bretgate Community.
Overseas in China, Keith Linch designed the first Urban Rural Community covering an area of 600 ha. Hailed as a new vision in sustainability and community improvement.
Successfully promoting equality in the workplace both in the UK and overseas. mbo architects welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.
With a passion for the promotion of women in the built environment. Our senior team in includes both male a female gender.
However, it is not only within our business that mbo architects promotes equality. It is an integral part of everything we do, plan and design around the world.
Each year we set out our Ethos with a number of Core Principles for mbo architects as a practice. Putting these principles into everyday practice is central to what we do.Couple this with our design, quality, sustainability and community policies, we believe we have an excellent ethos, in taking the traditional architects role to the next level and beyond. Putting our clients needs first while still embracing everything we believe in, and everything we design.
