Shanghai Auto City, Shanghai, China - Mixed Use Master plan
Situated close to the Shanghai F1 stadium, the local government client in conjunction with Scarborough Holdings had aspired to creating a a mixed use development that had an automotive theme and would serve as a catalyst to future development of an 80 km2 new business zone. This zone sits between the F1 Stadium and the large Volkswagon car plant. Part of the aspiration was to create a 'Manhattan' style skyline. that would be seen from the main Hangzhou to Shanghai Expressway shown cutting across the bottom left corner of the master plan. The existing road connections were also important as the road to the East form a main route to the F1 Stadium.
We therefore created a master plan that provided important vista's and focal points. The plan includes a ventral business district radiating outwards to the shopping malls hotels and residential areas. The retail mall to the North East also has a rooftop park and green bridges.
The plan in fact went beyond the brief and was well received, followed by a further appointment to master plan the larger 80 km2 in conjunction with the Chinese Urban Planners, to bring about a cohesive, well connected and commercially viable development plan.
