Women and Children's hospital, Chengdu, Masterplanning & Detail Design Stages.

This women and children's' hospital encompasses  all medical facilities relating to paediatric and gynaecological nursing, along with a general accident and emergency, outpatients and associated support medical areas and services.

The master-plan takes into account future expansion to take the number of beds to 1200. Out Patients handle an average of 1000 patients per day, the hospital had 8 operating theatres and a dedicated SARS Epidemic Centre. In designing for SARS we ensured that each and every medical area and ward within the whole hospital could be isolated individually.

The planning of the hospital had all out patient and clinical services to the of the development divided from the ward blocks by a hospital street running the full width of the development, this allowed for the planned extension to be developed in isolation to the main block. Thus reducing future costs and disruption. Clinical gases, maintenance stores and waste are treated on site in remote structures. Visitor parking is mainly on the ground, while staff and service areas are served via a two storey basement.
